Members can take out flexible loans after joining and settle on affordable repayments. All our loans are insured for free against disability or death. Our loans officers will help you through every step of the loans process. 

Dividend on Savings 

A dividend may be paid on member’s savings, which are also placed in our Life Savings Insurance scheme, which applies an insurance element to your eligible savings. This free insurance is offered at no cost to the member.

You can always be assured of a professional service from Downpatrick Credit Union. There are no hidden transaction fees for saving with us or borrowing money. 

Pay by Standing Order 

Arrange a standing order payment from your bank and be sure of regular payments to your credit union. Standing order forms can be obtained in our office or posted to your address if requested. We will also send you a statement showing all transactions on an annual basis. 

Pay by Debit Card 

If you wish, you can make a debit card payment in our office or via telephone. 

Online Services 

Check your account balances on our website making it more convenient for you to monitor your account. You can also use our online loan calculator as a guide for repayments before applying for your loan. 

Adult Membership 

Downpatrick Credit Union has in excess of (11000) members made up of people living and working within our community. Our aim in Downpatrick Credit Union is to regularly improve on our range of services and procedures to offer our members the best service possible. 

Common bond 

All credit unions have a common bond – something which unites its Members. The common bond for Downpatrick Credit Union is that members must reside or have employment within a ten-mile radius of 68-70 Market Street, Downpatrick. Membership of Downpatrick Credit Union is open to anyone who lives or works within this area. 


To become a member, you will need to complete an application form which can be obtained in our office or downloaded and printed off. In accordance with Anti-Money Laundering legislation, strict procedures apply in relation to the documents which are required to verify the identification of people wishing to join Downpatrick Credit Union. Therefore you will also require the following: 

Photographic Identification 

One of the following: 
Photocard driving licence/provisional licence 
Electoral identity card 

Address Verification 

One of the following: 
Current utility bill 
Current bank statement 
Tenancy Agreement 
The above documents must be dated within the last 3 months 

Fees & Minimum Opening Balance 

£1 membership fee & £5 minimum shares. 
Annual affiliation fee, declared at AGM 


Members must nominate at least one person and state their current address. In the event of a member’s death, all funds including insurances will be made payable to the nominee(s). Members can name more than one nominee and can change their nominee at any time. 

Change of Details 

Members can update their details with the credit union at any time. 
A valid proof of address must be provided in order to change addresses. 
Name changes require marriage certificates, adoption certificates or deed poll documents. 

Minor Membership (15 years & under) 

Account must be opened by one parent or guardian. 
Free membership and minimum of £5 Deposits 
Proof of photographic ID & proof of address – parent to satisfy this as stated above 
Birth certificate or valid passport for Minor 
On their 16th birthday, minors will transfer to adult membership. We will notify you by letter of the procedure.
