Local schools were invited to participate in the first stage of the nationwide 2007 Credit Union's Schools Quiz competition, run by Downpatrick Credit Union Ltd on Friday 26th January.
The quiz was held in the Great Hall in the Downshire Estate and was attended by 13 teams from 6 local schools.
Over 25,000 school children under the age of 13 will compete in over 300 venues throughout the 32 counties. The questions, compiled by primary school teachers covered such topics as geography, history, music, literature and sport.
This is the 16th succesive year that the Schools Quiz has been organised by the Irish League of Credit Unions. It consists of two 'knock-out' stages which culminate in a National Final in Dublin in early April when 100 qualifying teams will compete.
The winners of the local Credit Union level of the quiz were St Patrick's Boys Primary School in both Quiz A and Quiz B.
Gifts in the form of credit union yo-yos and pencil cases were given out to all who took part, the winning teams also recieved portable radios. In addition to salvers, certificates the school also recieved the Credit Union Schools Quiz Cup.
