Downpatrick Credit Union Ltd as become the first credit union in Northern Ireland to be awarded with the environmental standard BS 8555.

The credit union, in conjunction with Helen Crannie from the STEM project took just 4 weeks to complete the nessesary changes for the final audit for the award.

Staff of the credit union are now all aware about wasteing energy. Any lights or equipment not in use is now turned off, and we have switched our elecricity supply from NIE to Airtricty who generate power from wind farms throughout Ireland. Extra bins have been put in place for recyclable and non-recyclable waste and another step we took was to purchase only recycled paper and envelopes.
